Congratulations to Betty S, who is the winner!
If you missed my post the other day about meeting John and Sherry Petersik from Young House Love, make sure you catch up on that here…
*waiting patiently*
So, you may have noticed that YES, in addition to getting my own book signed, I got a copy of the new Young House Love book signed for one of you, Constant Occasional Readers! Because I wouldn’t be a very good blogger if I weren’t addressing your needs first (okay, second. my book got signed first). And believe me, you *need* this book. Poor Mr. Lemon’s honey-do list is growing daily as I flip the pages. (Love you, Mr. Lemon!)
Additionally, I’m throwing in a little home decor helper I threw together today! I’ve seen popsicle stick paint swatch rings (like the one here) on Pinterest, but when rummaging through my craft armoire, I saw these wooden tags left over from a party project (I picked mine up at JoAnn’s) and thought they would look much cuter :)
Just dip your wooden tag (or popsicle stick) into your paint cans, let them dry and thread onto a loose leaf ring (I got mine from Office Depot).
(Yikes – please disregard my man-hand and let’s pretend this is Mr. Lemon)
I added a vinyl floor sample tag that nearly perfectly matches our hardwood floors (just scour Home Depot or Lowe’s for a swatch that matches). The vinyl samples are great because they are easily cut and drilled to have the same silhouette as the wooden tags. It’s not something I’ll keep in my purse every day, but you better believe this little guy will be touring Ikea with me!
So, to win your own paint chip key ring starter AND a signed copy of the new Young House Love book, please “Like” This Nest is Best on Facebook and comment on this post with what home DIY project you’d like to tackle next!
Giveaway only open to USA residents (sorry!).
Giveaway ends Monday, November 26th at 11:59pm EST.
Winner will be drawn Tuesday, November 27th.
I’d love to check out the book “Young House Love”. I’m thinking of 1)redoing an old dresser with some chalk paint techniques or, perhaps, 2) string some tomatoe cages with lights for outdoor Christmas decorations. It’ll probably be the the tomatoe cages : )
Love the tomato cage idea!
I liked you on FB and I’m so glad I found your blog, the recap of your time in Chicago was halarious!! Anyway, I’ve been wanting to paint our master bath for weeks now, have the paint and all the supplies sitting in there, just need to find the time (and energy!!) :)
I’m so glad you found me, too! Painting is something I have to gear myself up for!

The project I’d most like to tackle is some wall art. We moved into our apartment (a rental, which totally limits our freedom. Boo.) back in May and I only just started hanging photos this past week. I’ve only done my office so far (and it’s not close to finished) and it’s made a huge difference. Once I finish in here the next step is the living room. Dying to get on that!!
I am in desperate need of wall art in our dining room. It is definitely the room that most eludes me in our house and has *never* felt anywhere near complete!
my next diy project will be painting some rooms in the house and installing wood floor in the den.
Kudos on the floor install! We had our wood floors refinished this spring and we were very glad we hired it out (they did a fantastic job!).
Oh my! We JUST closed on our new house- so I have DIY coming out of my ears! Paint the dining room, figure out some DIY artwork to fill in holes on the gallery wall to be, DIY ornaments for the tree and a wreath…
Sounds like a lot of fun coming your way! Congrats on the new home!

We moved into our house three months ago and we are DIY for pretty much the whole house.. 1950s ranch! I cant wait to apint our kitchen cabinets!!!
I grew up in a ranch so they have a special place in my heart :) Good luck with the cabinets!
*gasp*
Leave it to you to blend something so practical (a paint swatch ring) and make it even more beautiful. I’m crazy about those wooden tags. That would sooooo come in handy!
I think our next smallish project will be re-covering our dining room chair seats (got some new fabric on Etsy! Yay!), and our next bigger project will be painting our hallway or bedroom. Eventually. Honest. :)
Paint, paint, paint!!!
Liked on FB too! I’d love to stencil a wall in my bedroom, not sure if I’m ready though!
I’m considering stensiling our kitchen floor – it would be a first for me and it’s a bit scary!
I liked your FB page!
Loved your recap of the book signing! My next DIY project will be some homemade art for my new Ikea frames!
Gotta love Ikea! I love trying to find the right mix of vintage and Ikea in our home!
Yay – another give away! My next project is finishing my basement so there are lots of paint and decorating ideas that I’m in need of.
PS – I already like you on FB – ;-)
Yeah for the basement project!
My next project is redoing some Ikea nightstands for the bedroom. I love what some people have done with the Rast dressers as nightstands!
And I like you on FB! (Amy J….)
We’re in the middle of that same project! I bought the Rast dressers in Chicago (unfortunately we were missing a piece and are patiently waiting for it to arrive!) and they will be painted or stained soon-ish…
I love the wooden paint chips that is a really neat Idea! My next home project is to paint and decorate my kitchen. After that my main floor bathroom.
Kitchen accessories are my fav! And I’m jealous you’re tackling a bathroom soon; our’s is in serious need of an overhaul.
Very nice and creative idea! My next project is to paint my kitchen and make some DIY Christmas bulbs!!!
Ooooh…DIY Christmas bulbs?! I’m intrigued!
Great idea! My next DIY project will probably be painting. When we moved in to our house, my closet (a very small walk-in) was only primed, not painted, so that’s on the list. I also need to touch up some trim paint around windows and doors.
Mr. Lemon painted a bunch of our closets this summer and I thought he was going to kill me if I asked him to do one more! So…no, you can’t borrow him :)
I really want to tackle my master bath, it needs to be painted and new floors (just to start withh) I would love to get some inspiration and help from YHL. Thanks for the giveaway!
Our bath is in need of an overhaul, too! Probably going to be awhile for us, though :/
My next DIY project will be working on my next little ones nursery.
So, so, so fun!
My next immediate DIY is making some little art to hang in the powder room… eventually I will be repainting my exterior shutters. :-)
Art for the powder room sounds like a fun project! You could do something really unexpected since you don’t have to stare at it all the time.
Our next DIY project is to finally finish installing the closet system in the guest room so the contents in the closet which have now vomited onto the living room floor can be put away!
LOL!
I am working on no sew curtains for our house inspired by the YHL’s project ideas.. would love to have this book for more ideas and inspirations! and LOVED your creativity as well!
I am excited to try some Sherry no-sew curtains as well! Gotta love the iron on hems :)
I already like you on facebook.
Painting the kitchen cabinets is next on your DIY list followed by million other things to do in our house.
Totally impressed you’re tackling painting kitchen cabinets! WOW!
I have been getting some great ideas from this site. One of your posts has provided me with some great ideas for a baby shower I am co-hosting! My next big project is getting my 4 month old son’s baby room put together (procrastinate much?!?). I could use some inspiration ;)
Ooooh…let me know if you need help!
Well we are about to start building our house, so I would say ‘everything’. We are doing as much as we can ourselves.
How fun! Congratulations and good luck!
Finish up our kitchen reno. It is almost finished and looking so much better! =)
Gotta love a kitchen renovation! Congratulations!
We have a credenza and a chest of drawers that both desperately need love and paint.
We just finished painting an armoire (pictures to be posted this week!) and I loooove how it turned out. Good luck on your’s!
We’ve had “pick out a rug for the dining room” on the to-do list for a year. Time to get on it!
Sounds like a “Dude, get on that” item! lol
Our next dyi is finishing a new sidewalk!
That’s a DIY for you?! Impressive.
I like your facebook page. Hmm…our next DIY is going to be a cabinet over our washer and dryer :)
Oh lovely!
Liked your facebook page. We closed on our first home 10/10/12 and I have a ton of projects I want to get done. I missed their book signing in Dallas because we were unpacking all weekend.
Congratulations on your new home! Maybe you can catch them for hypothetical book #2 ;)
I “like” you on facebook! We have been updating our home for the last year, but haven’t gotten to our main bathroom yet. I’d love to tackle that soon since it’s totally stuck in the 60s! ;)
Oh, make sure you post before and after pics! Would love to see how it turns out!
How about “soon to be US residents?” I will be moving back to the sunshine state next year, and am looking forward to making my home away from home more homey! I love all the crafty things you do, and can only imagine how great the ideas are in this book if you’re recommending it! Definitely will have to keep my eye out for it here in the Great White North for now :)
*gasp* !!! You’re moving back?! Need details, stat!!!
